World famous Professor of Political Science, Harold Laski writes, "Browsing among books is the surest highway to thought, Hitlers and Mussolinis come and go; what may no tyrant could ever destroy a great book. I know no symbol of freedom more vital than the shop on whose shelves neither Jew nor Greek, neither bound nor free need fear exclusion. For to insist that exclusion and civility are antithetic terms is to have the due to human living. If I had to put the purpose of this war in a sentence, I should say that we fight it that men and women may freely choose themselves the books which give nourishment or pleasure. In Germany they burn the books, in Britain we sell them. So as long as we can continue to say that we can be confident of the outcome of this struggle". Books are never failing friends, we believe that reading is the best hobby to develop and library is the source of knowledge.
By the generous donation of Shri Jyotasnaben Joshi & Smt. Ushaben Jani, we have opened principal D. P. Joshi Library for the people of Rajkot. In this library more than 25,000 books and 80 magazines and newspapers are available. In the future, we want to include separate sections for women, children, and audio-video. We are arranging book exhibitions, lectures of eminent writers, poets, and reading workshops known as "Vanchan Shibir" for students. Every month we are have a "Granth Gosthi" (Book lovers' club) in this library. This library is open for general public as it's essential to have an educated and literate population in the emerging economy.
Unlike many libraries in India, all reading materials can be viewed by the public.
If a member of the public would like to have the privilege of checking out materials, we request that the member remit a nominal fee of INR 105 per year. Students of Sister Nivedita School have the privilege of using the library's facilities, including the ability to checkout materials, free of cost.
